My first ever Zbrush sculpt, based on the live action Fullmetal Alchemist films. Despite its age and having some aspects I would do differently now, I’m still very proud of this piece. Realism isn’t my style of choice, but I enjoyed playing with it here and learned a lot about the importance of establishing strong references in a 3D space, controlling forms, and the subtleties involved in communicating different materials using painted textures. I would love to redo this sculpt one day and apply all of the knowledge I have now.

Sculpted and textured in Zbrush, rendered in Keyshot.

A turnaround I drew of the actor for the film, Ryosuke Yamada.

A turnaround I created of the actor who plays Edward Elric, Ryosuke Yamada. I remember being rather frustrated while trying to recreate him in 3D space because his wigs did not at all reflect his hairline, and because he has an extremely distinctive nose that looks radically different from different angles. These sketches were very helpful in solidifying my understanding of visual quirks like these.
